This is exactly what happened to Sonia –some time ago.

That fateful day was a busy day at the office. I got home feeling overused and exhausted.

I was almost dosing off when I got a distress call from Sonia (one of my close clients)

She and Bill (her boyfriend) just had a heated argument.

She was in deep emotional pain.

It was really bad. And I could feel it in her shaky and sobbing voice.

What is it? I asked.

Here’s her story…

You see, two years earlier, Bill and Sonia started dating.

They first met at a shopping mall, and that was how they began talking.

They instantly hit things off.

Bill did everything right from the get-go.

I mean, he would call her every morning to check up on her and late at night before going to bed. 

And send her romantic texts during the day:

“Missing you,” “love you so much,” “can’t wait to see you,” “you mean the world to me,”

 “you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me,” “I’m lucky to have you in my life…”

Sometimes, he would stop by at her office to surprise her with lunch. 

And even go out of his way to plan romantic and fun dates and dinner.

They spent most of their long night calls talking about the future together.

There was so much passion and devotion.

And she was so sure he was the one.

Sonia couldn’t help but feel so good about him and the relationship.

At last, she’s found the man of her dreams and the perfect relationship she’s always wanted and dreamt about.

Along the line, however, something happened that left Sonia completely confused, scared, and sad…

She noticed that whenever she talked about moving things forward with him, he changes the subject or always comes up with excuses.

Either he says he’s just too busy getting his career on track or something… or he’s not ready to get that serious.

Each time she brings the issue up, he always gets offended.

And out of nowhere, he starts being more distant.

He doesn’t call or text as much as he used to. And when he does, it’s with short replies that feel cold…

He stops talking about his feelings for her.

And loses interest more and more…

The same thing happened a couple of days back that really got Sonia scared.

Then she asked me this question:

Why do relationships start passionate and loving… full of desire and fierce emotions – only to change – seemingly overnight…?

Sonia was blushing, and she felt her hopes rise…

I want to figure some things out on my own. I think there’s something off, and I really don’t know what it is.

Sonia felt like a sharp knife was struck and pierced through her soul.

• She spent over an hour talking to Bill. She was trying to find out what exactly he was feeling and thinking.
• She pleaded and cried.
• She tried to make Bill see she was the right woman for him.
• She even begged him to tell her what was missing so she could fix things.

All Bill could say was:

“It isn’t you. It’s me…” and walked away.

Bill lied…

About three weeks later, Sonia remembered she had some of her things at Bill’s apartment.

 She texted him – “how can I see you?

 I still have some of my things in your apartment I need to get.”

Bill said he was at work but asked her to use the key in her possession.

On getting there, Sonia met another woman in the house. 

She introduced herself as Bill’s fiancée that they were getting married a couple of months away.

Sonia was devastated. 

Her eyes were well up with tears, but she managed to suppress it.

At least at that moment.

When she got back into her car, she busted into tears.

But this was the same Bill who said he wasn’t ready for commitment, she thought to herself.

How come he proposed to another woman, and he’s ready to get married?

It was at this critical point in her life she gave me that distress call.
